This really resonated for me, I always find myself falling back into the thoughts of needing to change my body and whip it into shape like you said. This made me remember that pleasure can transform the body in deep, cellular, unseen ways.
Isn’t it more important how our bodies feel than how they look? Shouldn’t we be more concerned about the way it feels to be inside our body, attuned to sensation than to be floating outside of ourselves, overly concerned with how we are perceived? This is what this piece made me think. It also made me feel grief at how our world has steered us away from pleasure and connection to our bodies.
I love your writing. It is so alive and embodied. I’d love to hear about the 5 day challenge!
I so appreciate your heartfelt reflection and attention. Thank you 👁️ Isn't it wild how much invisible conditioning there is against experiencing pleasure woven into the things we do everyday?
I love how you explained this part - floating outside ourselves, as opposed to being within. It is odd, like we circle around ourselves, watching, making sure everything appears just so, rather than experiencing the way it is.
I'll send you a DM in a few days with some more info and the link! I think you'll find a lot to explore inside 🍯
"Bodily stockholm syndrome is a transitional threshold between realizing something cognitively and embodying it. In other words the space between having a grand realization in your mental awareness" How interesting! I learned something new there. I'm always interested in the 'space between'!
I think this tension in the space between, and the memories embedded in our bodies of "who we are" and therefore "how we're supposed to feel/be" is why so many of us resist the holorhythm - we haven't developed the ability to expand beyond the discomfort of the mysterious evolution.
I teeter between sadness and rage when I think about how many of us have/do hate our bodies! You’re right, we’re taught that we need to constantly change it and starve it and make it work, make it worthy. What bullshit!! It is and will always be worthy.
I’m so glad you see the harmfulness of that now, and I’m glad for myself too. Such growth!!
Such growth! That rage/grief continuum is quite a trip. The rage has become such a powerful, impassioning force for me. It's easy to forget how prevalent that mindset is, now that it's no longer my operating system. But being reminded of it has made me feel even more devoted to sharing everything I've learned
